In May, 2007, Fairfax Media and Rural Press Limited completed their merger, creating the largest integrated metropolitan, rural and regional, print and online digital media company in Australasia, with publications and websites in every State and the ACT in Australia, and throughout New Zealand.
In Australia, mastheads include The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, The Australian Financial Review, The Canberra Times, BRW, The Sun-Herald, and The Land.
In addition, Fairfax Media publishes regional and community newspapers, financial and consumer magazines, radio licenses in metro and regional Australia and several agricultural publications in New Zealand and the United States.
Fairfax Media has leading online businesses Fairfax Digital in Australia (including the No. 1 online news sites smh.com.au and theage.com.au, and leading classified and transaction websites) and Trade Me and stuff.co.nz in New Zealand.
Fairfax Media has installed a centralised Atex editorial and advertising system for their metropolitan mastheads in Australia. The central system is located in Sydney and provides for support of 2000 editorial and 1500 advertising users.
There are many significant benefits delivered by this new platform. Chief among these are content packaging that streamlines editorial processes and InDesign integration that improves magazines and feature section workflows.
