San Diego Union-Tribune

The San Diego Union-Tribune, is the product of two newspapers that date back as far as 1868. As the oldest newspaper in Southern California and the oldest business in San Diego, the Union-Tribune is one of the 25 largest newspapers in the country, reaching more than 300,000 readers daily.

The newspapers website, SignOnSanDiego.com, is San Diego’s the leading online source for local news, sports and entertainment information as well as for classified advertising, averaging more than 29 million page views and 2.6 million unique users in typical month.  Enlace, the Union-Tribune’s weekly Spanish-language publication, has the largest distribution in San Diego County.

In 2009, the San Diego Union-Tribune selected the Atex content management system to give it complete control of the editorial content production process.  Using the Atex Editorial CMS, the Union-Tribune has been able to reduce internal costs and streamline its pagination process, while managing its entire editorial workflow from an integrated, single database system.  The Atex Editorial CMS, is the second business system the Union-Tribune is currently using.  California’s second largest paper previously selected the Atex Advertising system to manage the end-to-end advertising workflow; from ad order entry and placement, to billing and financial reporting.

Return to customer selection

Atex was the best selection for us for a variety of reasons. Part of it had to do with the in-depth knowledge about newspaper workflow Atex demonstrated during the vetting process. Some of it had to do with the fact that the Atex products included features and functions that were already validated. We knew we were not going to be in a situation where we would be waiting for months or years for someone to build critical functionalities for us.
