P02 - Atex Web CMS for Developers Core

Note

As of August 2008, we are using the Live Layout Mananger functionality (introduced in Atex Web CMS 9.9) by default on the Developer's training.

Prerequisites

The minimum requirements for the course are Java, Object Orientation experience and some experience in HTML. Experience with J2EE/JSP is beneficial. The course does not require any previous Content Management experience and no previous Atex Web CMS experience is required.

Training agenda

The agenda is created with the intention of having a balance of theory and practice every training day. Thus, there is theory in the mornings (2-3 hours) and exercises for the rest of the days.

Day 1 - Installation, deployment, exercises

Focus the first day is to get going with exercises on the Atex Web CMS platform. We start with a brief intorduction to the installation and configuration framework, followed by a simple installation. Then, we continue with an introduction to programming and deploying on the Atex Web CMS  platform and then we do the exercises. Focus for the initial exercises is to get a feel for the Atex Web CMS system.

Day 2 - Theory and more exercises

Since we skip some theory day 1 in order to get to work more quickly on the exercises, there is quite a lot of theory to cover during day 2. Druing day 2, we are covering things like data model, template system, XML handling etc etc. This is where the attendees get the complete theoretical understanding of Atex Web CMS.

The exercises during day 2 are also more complex, and going deeper into the Atex Web CMS platform.

Day 3 - Advanced input templates

The third day gives a much more thorough understanding of the Atex Web CMS template system. We learn how to do various customisations to the input template, creating our own fields and layouts etc, and we get an insight into how the Atex Web CMS user interface is built and how we can modify its beheaviour.

The third day exercises cover both fields and layouts and the Atex Web CMS Application Framework.
