How can AI support journalists and newsrooms? What are the biggest challenges media organizations face today? And how can we use AI responsibly in journalism?
These were the key questions behind the Atex AI Challenge 2024, an initiative that brought together newsrooms, media startups, independent journalists, and publishing groups to explore the potential of artificial intelligence in the industry.
Over the past weeks, we have evaluated a diverse set of proposals tackling newsroom challenges such as:
- Newsgathering and verification – AI-driven tools for fact-checking, research, and automation.
- Editorial workflow optimization – AI-powered solutions to free journalists from repetitive tasks.
- Content personalization – Smarter ways to engage audiences with tailored news experiences.
- Archiving and analytics – AI-enhanced content retrieval and data-driven reporting.
And today, we are sharing the final video of the Atex AI challenge, featuring insights, selected proposals, and the announcement of the winning project.
Congratulations to Il Capoluogo, whose AI-driven solution aims to transform municipal news into structured, accessible content—bridging the gap between local governments and their communities.
