GDPR is now effective, what it is and how to be compliant when using Atex Software.

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) (EU) 2016/679 is a regulation in EU law on data protection and privacy for all individuals within the European Union. It also addresses the export of personal data outside the EU. The GDPR aims primarily to give control to citizens and residents over their personal data and to simplify the regulatory environment for international business by unifying the regulation within the EU.

It is in effect since 25 May 2018. Since it is a regulation, not a directive, it does not require national governments to pass any enabling legislation and is directly binding and applicable.

The main goal of GDPR is to protect citizens privacy, so the regulation affects the usage and protection of personal data, not any kind of data.

Personal data is defined by the EU as “personal data is any information relating to an individual, whether it relates to his or her private, professional or public life. It can be anything from a name, a home address, a photo, an email address, bank details, posts on social networking websites, medical information, or a computer’s IP address.

Atex has documentation on the usage of personal data across its product lines and can offer guidelines to help Atex customers becoming GDPR compliant.

We have also setup procedures and data processing agreements to regulate management of personal data.

You can reach out to our support teams to have access to the documentation and to discuss the process for managing your compliancy process.
